Brother and Sister as Titles

on October 30, 2012

Back on September 14, 2012 we published a post on this blog entitled Reply to Serving, not Ruling part 1. This post on the Utah People’s Party blog was a response to some insightful comments that a blog author named Cole Ryan made on another blog. Our reply included the following paragraph.

“Behold, the Lord hath created the earth that it should be inhabited; and he hath created his children that they should possess it.” (1 Nephi 17:36) Since all people of every faith and nation inhabit the Earth, all are the  children of the Lord spoken of.  Since all are the Children of the Lord, all are brothers and sisters. Therefore we refer to the above named author as Brother Ryan. Brother Ryan begins with a quote …

The Politics of the United State and of our state, are contentious and that displeases the Lord. We hope that reminding every one that all people are brothers and sisters, children of the same Heavenly Father, will lessen the contention. To remind every one that we are all  one family and thus should love not hate each other, the Utah People’s Party uses the terms Brother and Sister as titles that apply to any man and any woman respectively. In the future, we plan to use the titles Brother and Sister even to refer to those who criticize or oppose us.

When we spoke of “Brother Ryan” back on September 14, we meant that the author of the post on which we were commenting is a son of God and therefore our brother. We did not mean that Brother Ryan was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or that he was a member of the People’s Party. The four posts the Utah People’s Party published immediately before this one were endorsements of congressional candidates. In each of those endorsements, we refer to our candidate as Brother or Sister because of their relationship to us as children of the same Heavenly Father. Those candidates may or may not be members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints already. None of those candidates have joined the People’s Party yet nor have they yet endorsed the Party in any way.
